My Sellers Hoosier and Pyrex: Done!

This was the first project that I tackled once we moved into our townhouse. I found this great old "Seller's Hoosier" at my favorite antiques store for only $100.00. I bought it last fall, and it had been hanging out in my parent's garage...just waiting for me to make it cute again!

I chose Martha Stewart's "Duck Egg" paint color, and only painted the doors and drawers, leaving the old white paint as is. (sorry...too much haze in this pic)

Then it was time to load it up with Pyrex!

I think it looks as pretty as I'd imagined, if you don't mind my saying! lol
My Mom found me that orange "ombre" colored bowl, and it's one of my favorites!

The brown and pink stripes were my Grandma Glo's. Last year I was at her apartment and I said "You MUST have some Pyrex somewhere"! And so she dug way back into her kitchen cupboards and pulled them out..."How about these"? She said!  LOL
Thank you Grandma!

Of course, I wasn't able to fit it all up top, so the bottom holds the other half, or held the other half I should say.  Because all this Pyrex (as pretty as it is)  gave me a not so great feeling. A "Hoarderish" type feeling. Did I really need 20 casseroles? 50 bowls? LOL
And so I took it all down! Then I chose my favorite pieces to keep. I posted about 65 pieces for sale on Craigslist, and there is a woman now on her way from SD to MN to pick it all up!

I kept every piece that was gifted to me, all Butterprint, New Dots, my pie plates and loaf pan, and several others. I redid the Hoosier, and I swear it looks just as full! LOL
I'll show the RE-DO soon!

Thank You for visiting! :)

We Hit A Few Sales!

My sister and I headed out to a few sales last week. I was determined to spend very little money, and just have fun "hunting". It was a successful trip! This was my score at the first sale! This old ice cream sign is huge! It's made of heavy cardboard, and it was only $2.00! The man running the sale said that his uncle used to run a soda fountain. At the same sale we found a lidded fire pit/bowl for our patio. Price? $5 bucks!

The next sale was the most expensive estate sale I've ever been to. I almost said something to the people running it! LOL But I managed to bite my tongue. Somehow I managed to find 4 ornaments (Yay Christmas in July!!) for .50 each.

Next up was a church sale! The felt mittens and the glass ornament were .25 each. And the Santa shaker is Lefton, and was .50.

Angie held up these Holt Howard Santa Mugs and said "Are these anything that you would want"?
Ummmm YES!!! They're the large size, and were .25 each!  Man I love church sales! lol

 Glittery Angels in neon hues!

And these were an unexpected find! Large spun cotton Easter Eggs!

A vintage Annalee Santa for .50!

Pretty lace trims.

A Strawberry tea towel

And (FINALLY) a x-mas towel. My first, and only .50!

I found this pretty little towel. The perfect gift for a friend.

And I think these will be great napkins for someone to embroider on!

Wellie got a haircut. And when I picked her up from the groomer, I literally gasped! She looked like a little pig! lol I mean, I knew she was a little chunky, but I was hoping the haircut would make her look a little thinner! Well it had the exact opposite effect. Then I took her to the vet, and yes, she in fact now was 5 pounds overweight. That's a lot on a little wienee! So she's been on her diet for a couple weeks now, and I think she's already looking better. Not quite sure what sort of look she's giving us here. "Poor me, Mama doesn't take me to Starbucks for whipped cream anymore". ???

Erica :)
p.s.  There will be a "Market Monday" this coming Monday, the 3rd, at 5:00PM Central

Swap Up-Date and an Estate Sale Find!

Hi Friends! I hope you all had a fantastic weekend.
Well, the names are in for the swap and there are 17 of us! A great turnout I'd say.
Here are your partners! The colored names below are active links if you need them. I'll be emailing each of you with contact info as well. Please let me know if you've recently swapped with your chosen partner, and we can do some rearranging.

Erica of Golden Egg Vintage.................Michelle (The Tattered Quilt Cottage)
Dorothy of Hen's Rule...........Maggie (non-blogger)
Debbie R. (non blogger)........Debra G. (non-blogger)

So we have several gals without blogs this time. I tried to pair non-bloggers with someone who has a blog, in hopes that the blogger will post pics of what each of you sent and received. Is that ok with everyone? I hope so! :)
Debbie and Debra- If one of you will send me pics of your swap items I will do a post for you on my blog. This worked well with my last swap!
Thank you all for signing up, and please let me know if you have any questions etc.
I can't wait to see what everyone sends each other!

Angie (my twin sister) and I went to an Estate Sale over the weekend. Everything was priced so high! But I didn't want to walk away empty handed because it had taken us forever to find the place!

These little guys were marked $12.00 but they accepted my $10.00 offer. I think it's really hard to find them without glue repairs because of their odd shape. But these are perfect! They're signed Geo.Z.Lefton and still have their foil stickers. So I think I did pretty well.

As I was looking through pictures today I remembered that these same little candy cane kids were featured on the cover of this vintage Christmas album that I bought last year.

OK, Sorry that my posts have been few and far between. I haven't been letting myself go to the flea markets or thrifts! Booooo! It's just not in the budget right now. So I haven't really had anything to show you. Oh! LOL I just thought of something fun to show you as I'm typing. Angie and I went to a couple sales last week and I haven't shown you those things. I'll post that tomorrow! :)
Talk to you soon my friends!
Erica

PS. There will be a MARKET MONDAY next MONDAY, one week from today. 5:00PM Central

Vintage Christmas In July: Let's Swap!

Hello, Hello My Friends! Are you ready for Christmas? lol
Have you been tucking little x-masy things away for this swap?
I sure hope you'll join in!

I found this Christmas tin at the Goodwill for a dollar and it gave me an idea for the swap! This is your basic sized cookie tin. And since I know it's something everyone can easily find at the GW, thrift, or garage sale, I think it will be the perfect container to hold our swap goodies.

The best part of using a sturdy tin is that we can include a couple glass ornaments, and they'll be safe for shipping. This tin isn't "vintage", just vintage inspired. So don't worry if you can't find an old one.

This Swap is open to non-bloggers. I've had great results in the past with opening my swaps to non-bloggers, and I hope that will continue! If you don't have a blog please make sure you leave an email address in your comment.

OK, Here are some things that I want to say and I hope that you'll still like me when I'm done. :)

If you want to participate you must send primarily VINTAGE x-mas items. You'll need to dig into your personal stash if you haven't found enough to fill your tin by the deadline. Hopefully you'll have luck at Estate, Garage, and (my favorite) Church Sales!
I don't consider Christmas things from the 80's or 90's vintage. Even the 70's are iffy. lol
This swap is for people who really love old Christmas items! And the idea is to receive a pretty tin full of exciting things for your collection or holiday crafting!

You CAN include supplies for holiday crafting. And 1/4 of your tin can be NEW items. This silver tinsel is from Michael's. You may also make one or two items for your partner, whether it be an ornament, card, etc.

And these cupcake liners and candy cane ribbon were from Michael's too! Also, it's totally up to you if you want to include additional things for your partner besides the filled tin in your package.

Let's ship our packages no later than Monday, the 8th of July. That's right after the holiday weekend. Please comment on this post only if you would like to participate. Make sure to leave me a way to contact you if I don't know you! I'll leave the swap "open" for a few days, and then I'll post your partners! As with my other swaps, please take the time to get to know your partner! It's such a great way to make a new friend!

I hope you'll join in! Thanks,
Erica :)

I've Missed You All!

Hello Hello! I'm finally ready to get back to blog land!  My sister and I are settled into our new place, though I'm not quite ready to show pics yet. We are still trying to make it look cute!
I still owe many of you emails and thank yous for your sweet comments on my post about losing my parent's dog, Billy. My blogging pals helped me so much!
And as for my last post, I'm happy to say that I only lost 2 followers! LOL :P

Mini Rand McNally's and this darling Coloring Book were found at a local antiques shop last week.
Vintage coloring books are a new collection of mine! As if I needed one! Haa!

These "smalls" were at the same store. Yes, I seem to like imaginary men the best! lol  My friends and family would same something along the lines of "she's too picky". But of course I don't agree!  Anyway,  I had to get this postcard! And the Get Well card is just perfect for someone many of us know!

Despite the fact that I like "Imaginary Men" best, I do not prefer imaginary babies!
Tick-Tock, Tick-Tock! I had to grab these unused vintage baby books.

The graphics are so darn cute!

It's not often that you find them this clean and unused!

I stopped at a new little thrift called "Too Good To Be Threw." Isn't that a cute name?
I found the McCoy planter and the children's book for $1 each. And all the vintage seam binding was .10 a package!

The book is so sweet!

I'm so addicted to vintage pics of  animals!

This vintage Girl Scout tin was at the flea market. I just thought it was neat. It'll be for sale.

I hit my very first Garage Sale of the season, and actually had some luck! Two boxes of x-mas lights for a dollar each, and a Lefton Angel in a .50 box at the end of the driveway!

The old silverware tray was at the same sale, for $1. And then I found two packs of strawberry invitations, the game of Hearts, an antique valentine, and a Little Golden Book that I didn't have, at my favorite little thrift!

I don't have a record player yet but I really want to find one this summer! So I keep picking up records when I see fun ones.

These were each .50 at the thrift!

I love Christmas oldies!

And then lastly, these are both by USA pottery. I love the one with the scale type pattern on it. I was a bit annoyed that the thrift had it marked $5.00 "Vintage", but I bought it anyway. The other one was only a dollar at that same garage sale.

Well, I hope everyone has been doing well! I know I have a ton of blog reading to do. I need to catch up on what's been going on with everyone!
And Hey!! Yes, I am still hosting the CHRISTMAS IN JULY SWAP! I will post about it next week! So be on the look out!
Erica :)

Proud to be a Minnesotan!

Today the MN Senate voted to legalize Gay Marriage!  And Gov. Mark Dayton has already said he will sign the measure into law. We will become the 12th state to make it legal!

I'm so happy for all the couples who will be able to apply for benefits that they deserve and need! And I'm happy that their union of love will be recognized as it should be, as a MARRIAGE!

I usually keep my blog light-hearted and vintagey. But this issue has always been important to me, and I'm so excited to see real progress being made!
I'll be back soon-
Erica :)
